people still watch rachael ray? what? why isn't anyone listening to me?

so i got an email from cara this a.m. forwarding me one of the recipes rachael ray is going to be whipping up in less than 30 minutes this evening at 6:30. she forwards me her recipes every now and again and we get annoyed and shoot a couple emails back and forth ripping on her... but today's got me especially fired up. i want to share it with you.

-------------------------

Loosemeat Sandwiches

1 tablespoon vegetable oil, 1 turn of the pan
1 1/4 pounds ground sirloin
1 cup chicken stock, eyeball it, 1/2 a 14-ounce can or box
1 teaspoon sweet paprika
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper
4 burger buns, spilt, or kaiser rolls, split
1/2 yellow skinned onion, finely chopped

Heat a medium skillet over medium high heat. Add oil and meat to the pan and brown the meat, breaking it up with the back of a wooden spoon as it cooks. Add chicken stock to the meat. Season the meat with paprika, Worcestershire, salt and pepper. When the liquid comes to a bubble, reduce heat to simmer. Cook meat 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Pile meat into buns or rolls and top with raw finely chopped onions.

ummm... thats sick.

actually - i take that back - its not sick... its not ANYTHING. you can't call this a recipe: browned ground beef with a splash of worcestershire piled on top of a bun with some raw onions. especially when you know during the show she offers a million substitutions: "if you don't have ground sirloin, you can substitute ground chicken or turkey. ground turkey is great if you are watching your calories and you want to make this an even healthier meal! if you don't have hamburger buns... feel free to use hot dog buns or rolls or sliced bread - whatever you have on hand! if you want to make this a low carb meal... skip the bread and use a lettuce leaf! you could substitute soy sauce for the worcestershire to give it a little asian twist! thats what i love about the recipe... its so versatile!"

oh - and i guarantee you she tries to tell you this is "kid friendly". yeah - you know when my little brother was a kid he just couldn't get enough of that ground beef and raw onion... yummo.

rachael ray ladies & gentlemen! she has over 12 published cookbooks! she makes meals in under 30 minutes! she's brilliant! she's america's sweetheart!

for another fabulous creation in under 30 minutes that mixes shredded cheese, ketchup, mustard, beer & milk gravy, noodles and hotdogs... click here.

-------------------------

so in other news... i took the 1 this morning. i totally gave up on the 1bx which has been the worst bus of all time for the past 2-3 weeks. are you with me on this? are other 1bx riders experiencing my pain? so i got to the bus stop about 7:53 this morning, waited about 12 mins., gave up and got on the 1 and you know what? it wasn't that bad. i totally got a good seat and by the time we hit chinatown the bus was so full it didn't stop and we were downtown by 8:25. yeah! i think i'll be cruising the 1 most days until someone tells me the 1bx has gotten its act together. see ya on muni!

Wow Jen - i didn't realize the extent of your angst towards Rachael Ray! But I admit - that hot dog pasta recipe is disgusting. Can you write an editorial to the food network?

Ok. We all know that I enjoy a good hot dog just about any day of the week (hey jen, remember those ones we ate at the game last weekend?) but I too, wouldn't go near R.R.'s recipe.
Her show should be called Another Bad Creation by Rachael Ray.

Unfortunately, I witnessed the hot dog disaster sometime when I was at home watching FN with the KI.

She cuts up the hot dogs in little pieces, then SAUTEES them in a PAN OF OIL! "To make the casings crisp." Deeee-scusting.

In the same episode, she also makes ice-cream balls. She uses her hands to shape the scoops into balls, and then rolls them in mashed-up cracker jacks.

It's so gross to watch the melted ice cream squish though her chubby fingers. "You gotta work fast because the heat from your body will start melting the ice cream!"

R Ray needs to stop being so "creative" with her recipes. It's really grossing me out.
